Rareness

A number of conditions are under diagnosed because of rareness. It is unlikely that the average general practioner will have much experience of them, and will be unwilling to consider them as a possible problem.

Bipolar disorder

Also known as manic-depressive disorder, it is characterised by alternating episodes of depression and euphoria. Generally the patient will not be self aware during the manic phases.

Coeliac disease

Prolamin (protein found in wheat, barley, rye) intolerance which causes damage to the large intestine and problems with absorbtion

Whooping cough (pertussis)

Protection from DTP vaccination can wear off after around 10 years, and with decrease uptake of vaccination the condition is returning. A persistent cough may be assumed to be from a cold.
